Bio: came up at the end of July in 2005 and started his first major league game against the Minnesota Twins. That was the game Manny Ramirez came off the bench and notched a game winning single, which meant he avoided yet another trade deadline. The Red Sox entered the playoffs in 2005 with Papelbon as the set up man for Mike Timlin, and gave Papelbon the closers role in 2006 over Keith Foulke. Papelbon made the All Star game, and was one of the best closers in the majors, until he hurt his arm in the final month and was supposed to move into the rotation. After working as a starter for spring training, he finally told manager Terry Francona his heart was in closing, and that he wanted to do it for the rest of his career. Wild Thing is back people.

Projected 2007 Statistics: 1.00, 80, 45, 100

Fantasy Outlook: all of you who had fantasy drafts and took Papelbon as a starter, you lucked out. With Papelbon moving back to the closing role, his value skyrockets. He's a top five closer, and I expect even bigger things this season. We should win more games, so his saves will go up. The fact that he missed a month last season had his saves lower than they would have been. His ERA could remain about the same, and with more innings, come more strikeouts.
